“Jonah” by Vince Lane is a work of literary fiction, a period piece written in accented vernacular. The story is staged in small town Louisiana in the 1930’s during the great depression.

What a feel good book. This is truly a story leaving you warm and fuzzy.

Through challenging times, murky despair, neighbors pull together to support and form a patchwork family. Along comes Jonah and suddenly, slowly the bitter times turn surprisingly sweet. An angel on earth to provide hope and ease the burden ladened plate of these tired people…perhaps. Trust me, you’ll want to befriend sweet Jonah, I sure do.

The narrative delivers enough of a slap of good vs. evil with a wonderful supporting cast, thanks to Lane’s ability to balance. The theme really makes this book along with Jonah’s discreet opaque presence. Always positive, Jonah becomes a welcome contagion to an already wonderful collection of characters, nefarious players beware, Jonah is a formidable muted force.

Too many characters to love, even more to loathe. Diamond Dupree is the archetypical slime ball. Jake the proverbial hero. Great characters, always love it when just desserts are served brutally cold.

A story all will enjoy, multiple themes, love the solid message of resilience and hope with a huge dose of karma.
