Angie seems to have everything going her way, until her world is torn apart by her sister’s betrayal which leads to a brutal rape. Heartbroken and reeling in the aftermath, Angie has to find an internal strength to rival her record-breaking power lifts if she ever wants to feel worthy of love again.

Angie crawls into your heart claiming well earned space. A beautiful sweet innocent girl whose life irrevocably altered forever at the hands of a rapist. Betrayed and brutalized, we feel Angie’s pain as she deals with her attack and its aftermath. Her emotions raw, devoid as she pieces her life together. Family, friend, boyfriend surround her with love and support as Angie’s strength, hope and faith slowly aid in mending this worthy soul.

Pitman’s assured writing broaches the difficult subject of rape. She portrays Angie’s differing emotions and realizations post rape with affecting manner. Her erratic behavior, thoughts, feelings all plausible, tactile through Pitman’s prose. The attack difficult to read, respectfully presented allowing the reader to grasp its magnitude without overly graphic details. Her healing is felt as the narrative delves into both rape and victim turned survivor. The reactions of those closest to her are emotional as well as credible.

Pitman is a rape survivor making Angie’s story even more poignant. No doubt the angony, feelings expressed are all too real to a victim and survivor of rape. An emotionally challenging story to read on a delicate topic, a character surviving the unthinkable through her strength, faith and loved ones. Potent in its entirety.

  1. Thanks Melinda. Such a great review and very appreciated. It was hard to write, but it was also healing and freeing. I can now talk to others about what happened to me and I hope my experience and Angie’s can help others to heal, too.
