Life had been well planned for Frances Durant, but she was fond of saying, “I rarely do what’s expected of me.” In the summer of 1919 she, like the rest of the country, was ready to throw off the gray days of war and laugh again, now that the 1920s were about to come roaring onto the scene and change everything. What she wasn’t ready for was a tall, tanned Marine fresh from the battlefield and ready to take New York City by storm.

I absolutely fell in love with this stunning story. I can’t count the number of times my eyes welled with tears, truly an unforgettable love story.

Francis and Frankie stole my heart. Francis wedged her way into my heart with her personality. Her nickname ‘Spitfire’ couldn’t be more fitting. I adored her loyalty and her ability to love completely especially given her family was anything but loving. Her strength, courage and spirited nature only endear her to the audience. Frankie will sweep you away with his sense of honor and duty, his capacity to love given his heartbreaking story. Two people perfectly matched, a true example of unconditional love, surviving the cruelest fates life delivers, to giving up so much for each other all in the name of love and commitment.

Wonderfully written, fabulous characterization, a touching narrative. Lee is an authoress to keep your eye on, after this deeply sentimental story I can only image her future projects, no doubt a destiny with tremendous promise.

A heart wrenchingly beautiful story of true love. Highly highly recommend reading this tender story, quite memorable.

About Terri Lee
Born and raised in northern California, that part of the country will always have a piece of my heart. My family moved to Missouri in my teenage years and when the love of my life walked through my door at my summer job, that is where my heart truly found its home. As with all good things, when I least expected it. Of course it didn’t hurt that the first thing he did was buy me a chocolate malt. Forty years later I am still married to my High School sweetheart, who has always been my biggest cheerleader in whatever scheme I dream up. And believe me, I’m capable of dreaming up almost anything. We have a golden/lab named (Elizabeth Bennett) Lizzie, who is my muse and my steadfast writing partner. She offers only the kindest critiques. Not to be outdone, our cat, Baby Kitty, is a card carrying terrorist, whose only mission in life is to thwart any goodness that comes my way. I make my home in a small rural town outside of Springfield, MO, the sort of place where the adventures reside only in the stories I spin, which is just the way I like it.

I like the phrase “I rarely do what is expected of me.” Oh this phrase does hit home. I guess that is what began the book’s appeal for me. I can relate to that…and it just continues to relate…I really would love to read this book.

The book sounded like one I would like to read. I particularly like the Roaring 20’s but there’s not many books written about that time period.

  4. My husband and I are interested in this kind of stuff because that is how racing began. Bootleggers transporting their moonshine to wherever they would meet potential buyers were always taking a chance of getting into trouble. You never hear about the women who loved them and were loyal to their men because they loved them. I enjoy reading stories like this.

  14. This really is a terrific book. People just don’t write like this anymore. I passed my copy to my daughter who loved it so much she wanted my 87 year old father to read it. He gave it a thumbs up too. No surprise.
