One Plus One
JoJo Moyes

One single mom. One chaotic family. One quirky stranger. One irresistible love story.

Another keeper by Moyes, not surprising, I know.

The slow build up only enhances the entire reading experience. You’ll see when you tuck into this spirited read.

At center stage, Jess, a character you’ll relate to. A woman with heart, scratching and clawing to keep her footing. Things aren’t easy for her but she forges on like the trooper she is. Despite her ongoing challenges you cheer for her as opposed to pitying this remarkable woman, she evokes heartfelt positive emotion from the reader, thanks to Moyes’ well developed characterization.

“The only thing Jess really cared about were those two children and letting them know they were okay. Because even if the whole world was throwing rocks at you, if you had your mother at your back, you’d be okay. Some deep-rooted part of you would know you were loved. That you deserved to be loved.”

Moyes creates an array of characters all contributing to the story. Taking on a life of their own, they reach from the pages and pull you into their world creating an emotionally charged and memorable experience. You become so familiar with the players you’ll want to invite them into your world. With such familiarity you truly imagine the characters dealing with the issues depicted.

“You see, he had once known a woman who had told herself she could do anything – and then decided she could do nothing; a woman who, finding herself at her lowest, did her best to push everyone away. And he realized in that moment that he had to make things right. He felt her injustices more fiercely than he had ever felt anything for himself. He realized, as he held her to him and kissed the top of her head and felt her cling to him, that he would do anything he could to make her happy, and her kids, and to keep them safe and give them a fair chance.”

The ending was predictable although not diminishing the story in any way. The journey to the end is where the apex of this book hits. Despite the predictability, enough plausibility lends its hand to creat pure satisfaction.

My emotions were all over the place ranging from laughter to tears. Very well done, a remarkable effort from Moyes.

Moyes writing is a major contributing factor to the success of this book. She certainly knows how to craft a romance engaging the reader with the turn of every page. Wonderful writing, a fabulous cast of characters all merge together to conceive a fantastic narrative.

Fans of Moyes or readers hoping to sink their teeth into a great book, you must read One Plus One, so much pleasure awaits from cover to cover. Enjoy, I sure did!!
